Hunting on Crown land in Ontario
We are building a CrownAccess guide to hunting on Ontario Crown land — where it is allowed, and how Wildlife Management Units and seasons work. The full guide and any related map layer are not available yet. Here is what is planned, and where to look in the meantime.
What the guide will cover
- The Outdoors Card, hunting licences, and tags under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997
- Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) boundaries on the CrownAccess map
- Seasons, species rules, and how to read the Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary
- Where hunting is and is not allowed on Crown land: parks, safety zones, municipal firearm bylaws, and posted restrictions
- How Crown land camping and MNRF bush roads fit into a hunt plan
Hunting is heavily regulated: licences, seasons, zones, tags, firearm rules, and local restrictions all apply, and treaty harvesting rights operate on a separate constitutional footing. Until the guide ships, start with Ontario’s hunting pages and hunter education requirements. Our Crown land explainer, camping guide, and roads guide cover the land-access side already.
